“Reimagining ministry by affirming neurodivergent minds as vital, Spirit-empowered gifts to the church. ”
Neurodivergent Christians—those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other neurological differences—bring unique creativity, insight, and relational capacity to ministry. Yet in many congregations, their gifts remain misunderstood or underutilized due to leadership norms shaped by neurotypical expectations. While other sectors are making strides in inclusion, the church has few resources for recognizing and equipping neurodivergent leaders.
This project will examine how churches can affirm neurodivergence as part of the imago Dei and adapt ministry practices to empower these individuals for meaningful leadership. Using interviews, surveys, and case studies, I will gather insights from neurodivergent leaders, congregants, and inclusive ministries across diverse Christian contexts. The study will integrate these findings with biblical and theological reflection to produce a practical ministry guide, webinars, and presentations for pastors, seminaries, and denominational leaders.
By reframing neurodivergence from deficit to divine gift, this project seeks to spark a broader conversation in the North American church about how difference enriches the body of Christ. The goal is to move beyond accommodation toward celebration—creating Spirit-led ministry spaces where all members can flourish.
