About this grant for researchers

Building on the research completed in phase one of Called to Serve (calledtoserve.ca), this project will analyze and share oral histories of approximately 85 women ordained by Baptist churches in Atlantic Canada between 1950 and 2020. Analysis will involve topics such as the women’s call narratives, challenges in ministry, marital status and family expectations, experiences of women of colour, education, change over time, views of feminism, and roles of women in ministry. It will reveal gendered dynamics at work in the women’s ministries and others’ perceptions of them. Along with two research assistants—young women training for ministry—I will share the findings of this research at five gatherings in local churches in Atlantic Canada and at four academic conferences. Findings will also be reported at calledtoserve.ca, on the Called to Serve podcast, and through articles in academic journals and ministry publications.
