This dissertation will examine the construction of religio-ethnic identity in a Chinese American and a Korean American Protestant congregation. I will analyze first the distinctive religious beliefs and practices of these congregations and second how religious beliefs impact other areas of life--family and gender norms, economic values, the therapeutic dimension, and relations to American society. I will discuss how members of the congregations negotiate between the different aspects of their identities--”Chinese”/”Korean”, “American,” and “Christian.”
