About this sabbatical grant for researchers

I am applying for a Sabbatical Grant for Researchers to support the final stage of research and the writing of a book: And the Greatest of These Is Love: The Marriage of George and Jean Edwards. This biography of two nationally-recognized Christian peace activists will be a study of marriage as a spiritual discipline and a school of the spirit, in which two people help each other love God, and their neighbors as themselves, over a lifetime. In conversation with scholars like Diana Butler Bass, Charles Marsh, and David Matzko McCarthy, I will explore theological questions such as, “How can the daily practice of patience, gentleness, kindness, and forgiveness in marriage equip us to make an authentic Christian social witness?” The book is intended for a broad Christian audience, and will include three study guides with questions for pastors, church book study groups, and couples preparing for marriage. This book will empower Christians to begin new, fruitful discussions about the place of marriage in lives committed to embodying the Gospel of love.
