My sabbatical proposal, entitled "Third Timothy" is a means to prepare myself, my church, and my denominational partners for effective ministry with future generations of Christians. Third Timothy finds its inspiration in the first two letters the Apostle Paul written to his protégé in the faith. Through this sabbatical I hope to find the time, place, and resources to welcome and nurture Timothys for the future church. Specifically, I have made arrangements to observe, interact, and begin implementation of a successful Pastoral Residency Program. My congregation is already eager to pursue this kind of program for which we are geographically and theologically equipped to support. Second, I will be a part of the inaugural class for the Residential Scholars Program at Campbell Divinity School where I will spend time writing a children’s book of Psalms. This will extend the joy I once had reading the Bible and other books to my three daughters during our bedtime devotionals. Interspersed between these twin Timothy pillars will be a never-before-experienced two week family vacation, spending a week with my wife at a pastoral retreat center in Wisconsin, and a major baseball tour including a trip to the Hall of Fame.
