About this sabbatical grant for pastoral leaders discontinued

The biblical vision of shalom pictures a life of wholeness, something generally missing in our frantic, fractured culture. As Christians we seem too often to mirror the brokenness of our culture rather than painting an alternative picture of the true life of shalom God dreams for us to experience. My desire is to explore ways of assessing our lives and then making intentional lifestyle choices that can enable, rather than erode, shalom in our lives. I am convinced that until we in the church are able to come to an awareness of our own brokenness and begin the journey towards healing, the best we will have to offer the world are doctrines and platitudes that can transform neither us nor those whom we are seeking to reach. I am also convinced that my ability or inability to do this in my own life will determine the extent to which I as pastor will be able to lead the congregation toward shalom. My sabbatical plan combining personal retreat, family reconnection and engagement in various learning experiences will enable me to grow in living this vision out so that I am able, with integrity, to invite others to follow the path.
