About this sabbatical grant for pastoral leaders discontinued

How many times do congregations and ministers embark on new ministry plans without adequate preparation and energy? The last six years of full-time ordained ministry have been draining, both physically and spiritually, as much transformative work has been accomplished at Trinity. Most recently, we have undertaken a congregational process for discerning future plans and programs. As a first step along this renewed path of ministry, I am proposing a 12 week sabbatical intended to provide “breath-catching”, spiritual renewal, and preparation for the “Next Steps” I will be leading the congregation along.
Over the 12 weeks away from schedules and leadership responsibilities I envision a time to rest, a time to camp, a time of silent retreat, a time to worship, a time for regular devotions, and a long awaited trip to England to participate in an archaeological dig and spend time with family, to help me “catch my breath” and be renewed spiritually. Visiting other nearby congregations which are already walking the path we see before us in order to learn from their experiences, along with a time to read and a time to plan will help me to prepare for my future ministry at Trinity.
