Living Eucharist: Experiencing Grace from First Furrow to Last Crumb is a proposal for an eight-week sabbatical that makes room for exploring the spiritual dimensions of food production, preparation, and sharing. It is a commitment to ground social justice witness and presiding at the Eucharistic table in physical participation in the cycle of local food production and hospitality. I will spend time in the garden, at local farms, in retreat, and on building relationships with those who make eating possible in our food shed. The benefit will be more awareness of my participation in these relationships in public policy advocacy and sacramental ministry. Out of these experiences, I will develop service learning resources and opportunities to wed traditional spiritual practices with learning experiences about local food production.
