About this sabbatical grant for pastoral leaders discontinued

The proposed Williams sabbatical would take place mainly in Wales, home of our ancestors. This will be a clergy couple sabbatical -- actually, a clergy family sabbatical, as we include our two daughters (ages six and ten). We have found a Welsh clergy couple eager to swap homes and congregations for six weeks, allowing us to be immersed in a particular faith community. Prior to leaving the US, we will read up on the ancient Christianity of Great Britain and the many saints of Wales. While there, we plan to make individual retreats and attend seminars on liturgy and Cistercian monasticism. Afterwards we will travel to visit Celtic roots in other parts of Britain and France. The congregations (ours and theirs) are eager to experience an exchange. Should the family nature of this sabbatical seem unusual, please consider the tremendous benefits to our entire family -- all of whom are fully engaged in the life of the church. Both clergy are due for a sabbatical, and spiritually thirsty for it; yet we could not imagine scenarios for individual 12-week breaks that would not engender a large amount of stress for the other spouse and the children. Thank you for considering our proposal.
