About this sabbatical grant for pastoral leaders discontinued

There has been a marked increase in the number of couples in ministry that are actively engaged in pastoral ministry in a congregational context or para-church ministries. By couples in ministry I mean spouses/partners who are both engaged in professional ministry as clergy or are working collaboratively as a ministry team. This involves both serving in the role of pastoral leadership in the church either as co-pastors or one spouse is the identified pastor while the other has a significant leadership role in the ministry. As the number of pastoral couples grows, we find that our churches are ill-equipped to deal with these new models of leadership and that these couples are having to endure high levels of stress in their marriages and ministries. The result is that these couples are having difficulty finding balance in their personal and professional lives. I propose to study some of these models of couples in ministry and explore some possible ways of helping these couples employ some methods of managing the stresses of marriage and ministry as a couple.
