This project considers American Christian views of Islam from the colonial period to the present. It particularly focuses on popular religious writings such as missionary accounts, conversion narratives, and eschatological treatises, to illuminate the history of American Christian thought about Islam. It will demonstrate that American Christians have consistently indulged politically biased and stereotypical views of Islam.
