I would like to use the gift of sabbatical to explore how best to integrate all ages of people in innovative, corporate worship. In particular, I want to imagine how my congregation can effectively cross traditional boundaries of age and generation to provide Sunday worship that is both widely inclusive and spiritually deep. To seed my imagination, I will visit congregations that are engaged in exuberant intergenerational worship, with the intention of establishing ongoing mentor relationships and creative exchange. I will spend time in careful reading, to supplement these visits with a theological and practical framework. To do this work well, I will need time to reflect on my congregational visits, develop mentor relationships, and author a plan to share my findings on a diocesan and national level. Also, I will need such time to complement my work with deep rest, gentle prayer and significant time with my young family. I seek a 12-week sabbatical grant to alleviate the pastoral, homiletic, and programmatic demands of my daily ministry and allow me time to live deeply in a few places in my life and work.
