About this sabbatical grant for pastoral leaders discontinued

The theme for this sabbatical is to reflect on how to be in God and in the world at one and the same time. The integration of contemplative practice and prophetic ministries in the community of faith promises a spiritual life with renewing energy and transforming passion. It is my hope that in this time of reflection I can integrate more completely my spiritual practice with my call to social justice so that the renewed life and energy will nurture my ministry at Central Baptist Church. The plan for my sabbatical is to spend four weeks living with The Holy Transfiguration Community in Breakwater, Victoria, Australia. Holy Transfiguration is a Baptist monastic community that integrates contemplative life and ministries of social transformation. I will participate in the communal rhythms of prayer and service, and conduct interviews with the members of the community to explore the way they have integrated their life of monastic community with their prophetic call. I intend to spend an additional two weeks of the sabbatical visiting a few of the church communities that have partnered with Holy Transfiguration Community in renewal and prophetic ministry exploring the way the relationship between Holy Transfiguration and the churches has been mutually transforming. As a result of this sabbatical I will be clearer in leading Central Baptist Church in bringing together the experience of God and the ministry of social transformation.
