About this sabbatical grant for pastoral leaders (Discontinued)

I propose to spend a three month period trying to respond to the changing face of ministry as it; relates to health, healing, and wholeness. While much of the work done on the mission of the I Church deals with the command to baptize, teach, and make disciples, there is little attention given to the healing ministry of Jesus as a dimension of mission. With the growing concerns and shifts in healthcare in our culture, it seems that both pastor and congregation must explore and define new ways to be about the work of healing and health. To do this I want to .accomplish three things: 1) Expand my vision of pastoral ministry to include the growing work in Mind Body or complementary medicine; 2) Develop a vision of how to lead a congregation 'to be a community that heals and promotes wholeness, tending to both healthier living and support in times of illness. I will explore this through an encounter with ancient monastic roots, community partnerships and resources, and research; and 3) Apply what I learn to my own daily living in a way that promotes my own health and provides personal experience that .can inform leadership of the congregation and my future ministry.
