This proposal is for twelve weeks within a larger one-year sabbatical plan. The focus of the plan is personal and professional renewal. The professional part will take place primarily in the semester of 2004 at the University of Notre Dame’s Cushwa Center and Institute for Latino Studies. The personal part will take place for three months at the Sangre de Cristo Renewal Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This is a professional renewal center for priests and religious women. The final phase of the sabbatical will take place in Asia from May through July 2005. I will spend a few weeks of orientation at the East Asia Pastoral Institute in manila and then do some travel in China and Korea. I will meet with Jesuit colleagues and others engaged in inter-religious dialogue in both places. This aspect is directly connected to my future work in the area of spiritual development in Southern California where interest in Asian religions and spirituality continues to grow. My background in Ignatian spirituality provides many points of contact for a rich dialogue. The work at the Loyola Institute for Spirituality provides opportunities to incorporate new learning into programs and activities on my return.
