“Religious bodies have great potential to do racial justice work. ”
The proposed study relies upon a metropolitan Detroit Religion and Politics study to examine the association between attending religious congregations that preach sermons and/or host programs aimed at understanding racial inequality and supporting and/or involving oneself in grassroots movements aimed at combatting anti-Black police brutality and racial inequality more broadly. I am particularly interested in how race, political partisanship, and religious faith moderate these relationships. This study will provide information about the role that congregational contexts play in raising awareness about racial inequality and for whom such messages/ programs most strongly resonate.
