About this pastoral study project

First, my research will begin with deepening understanding of the historical data provided by Dr. Lee’s academic research and focus on the history of racialized trauma for Asian Americans in the United States. I plan to also meet with seminary professors in Taiwan to broaden my knowledge of the history of colonization and its effects in Taiwan. In addition, I plan to include conversation and study from the wealth of existing trauma informed pastoral care produced and shared by Black Indigenous People of Color.

Secondly, my research will continue by engaging leaders such as Dr. Russell M. Jeung of the Stop AAPI Hate coalition and gathering the necessary sociological data to further inform my research. Then I will develop a survey and interview questions for the third part of the research.

Lastly, I would like to partner with fellow Asian American licensed counselors in the United States to synthesize historical and sociological data and build a trauma informed pastoral care theology and framework to support the mental health of Taiwanese and Asian Americans alike, in the face of the escalation of anti-Asian hate and violence.
