About this pastoral study project

My project is to write and publish a short book of 47 reflections on the Catholic Christian life that will be used by college students and others during the Lenten season. It could also be used outside of Lent. It will also serve as a resource for Catholic high schools, youth ministry programs, homilists, catechists, small group sharing, and lay formation.

It draws on my 13+ years in campus ministry at St. Thomas Aquinas, Ames, Iowa (1990-1998, and 2009-present), a parish which also serves as the Catholic Student Center for Iowa State University. It seeks to invite young people to consider the wisdom of our 2000 year Christian tradition, especially through the images, stories and quotes I have used in 26+ years of giving homilies every weekend.

I would take a month off from parish work in May / June 2015 to write these reflections, which I already have outlined. They will address the questions and issues that I often encounter in my dialogue with college students. I realize that students have much to read in classes, and will not read something that is not excellent in its content, applicability and well crafted. To write this successfully will take more time and concentration that I can do while serving my parishes.
