About this pastoral study project

In an age when the mainline churches are searching for spiritual renewal and a model of Christian life in an age of fundamental social and religious change, renewed attention to the riches of their own theological heritage is desperately needed. This is the fundamental rationale for the project. For pastors and lay people in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and other Reformed denominations, a fresh presentation of John Calvin’s theology focused on the Christian life would be of genuine benefit. Calvin, after all, wrote and thought, preached and organized, in an era of profound change in social, religious, political, and economic life. A representation of his fundamental theological vision of the Christian faith and Christian life could inspire pastors and lay people facing similar upheavals and provide resources for the reform of Christian faith, life, and practice in our own era. An accessible volume on this subject for pastors and interested lay people would not only correct historical misrepresentations but also provide a winsome companion and rich resource on their own journey toward faithfulness in a world of change.
