“The Reading the Bible with the Poor Collaborative Inquiry project seeks to bring together leaders from the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival who are poor and dispossessed, faith leaders, biblical scholars, and activists, to develop and utilize a method of contextual, liberative biblical interpretation and application to shift and shape Christianity’s narrative and actions about poverty. ”
The Reading the Bible with the Poor Collaborative Inquiry process will form a cohort of poor and dispossessed moral leaders and scholars to work with the Collaborative Inquiry Team (CIT) in developing the Reading the Bible with the Poor methodology, (re)interpreting biblical texts, and applying those interpretations and the methodology to the local organizing work within the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. Resources about the methodology, the biblical (re)interpretations, and the application to building a movement to end poverty led by the poor will be produced and distributed throughout the networks of the CIT and cohort. These resources will impact the discourse and actions within and beyond congregations toward building a movement that fights poverty, not the poor.
