“…How can clergy and congregations (re)engage in pastoral praxis in care for the dead? ”
How we think theologically about our bodies when they die in light of the economic and ecological justice critiques should lead to emerging practices of death care among faith communities, from care for the dead body itself, to practices of burial and other emerging methods of disposition, to means of memorialization. Is it possible to recover earlier practices of the liturgical drama of the Christian funeral, in which the living saints accompany the body of the deceased believer to his/her final resting place. These are areas the team hopes to inform the constructive pastoral praxis of clergy and congregations.
