About this pastoral study project

Heidi Barr, a seminary-trained wellness coach, and I created a Facebook group called 12 Tiny Things in response to people wanting to develop intentional habits, but not knowing where to start. Each month we present a theme like home, food, or nature with a tiny thing to practice daily. Despite being something we do on the side, it has grown beyond our expectations. Folks skeptical of organized religion, novices to spiritual practice, and lifetime church goers are experiencing the group as real community and an accessible and relevant way to establish a sense of holiness and mindfulness to their lives.

The project is at a crossroads. I get excited about taking time to really explore why 12 Tiny Things is working and how I can facilitate the group in a way that deepens engagement. What are we tapping into? What can the church learn from this online community?

Through Tiny Practices, I will bring in experts to help me understand and theorize our success and deepen online engagement. Additionally, I will add curriculum like a book, retreat material, workbook, journal, calendar and merchandise around daily micro practice that churches, coaches and individuals can easily utilize.
