About this pastoral study project

What would an autopsy of a dying church reveal? For many of the declining churches and church conventions across America, the foremost indicator is a lack of youth and young adult presence, commonly known to be “millennials”, ages 18-35 (and in some cases, 40). Their commitment to the church is vital for the sustainability and growth of an age old institution that is being threatened by their exodus.

The Future-Church project examines the perspectives and opinions of three core groups: millennials who identify as Christian-believers but no longer feel a connection to the church, millennials who are likely to lead the future-church, and those who currently occupy the church who are ages 41 and above. For the latter, this project will offer major insight and yield research to transcend their outlook on the millennial age group and their impact upon the direction that the church is moving to.

This is not about getting millennials in the church as the starting point. This is about the challenge of bringing the gospel to bear and letting them know that it is there for them and that they can have a relevant impact upon re-imagining how the gospel conveyed.
