“… of our increasingly polarized nation, how do congregations of a moderate-to-liberal denomination understand and embody their mission and identity? ”
I will visit the 30 PCUSA churches in the Presbytery of Wyoming. Through conversations and focus groups in each congregation, I will assess the sense of mission and identity that these congregations embody. I will write a thick description of this experience for publications that reach both audiences of pastoral/academic specialists (students of American religion), and for a broader audience of readers who are interested in the shifting cultural roles of Protestant Christianity in American culture.
